NEW: Masterclass PhD & PDEng students
OSPT is proud to invite you for a free masterclass:
Flexibility & electrification; Process Technology of the Future
This masterclass will be hosted by Tjeerd Jongsma (director of ISPT) & Bert den Ouden (Berenschot). Supported by Prof. dr. Robert F. Mudde (Delft University of Technology), dr.ir. J.T. (Johan) Padding (Eindhoven University of Technology), Dr.ir. D.Wim.F. Brilman (University of Twente) and prof.dr.ir. AJ (Atze Jan) van der Goot (Wageningen University).
Flexible PT - factories designed for resources & energy with short time fluctuations.
Factories of the future will rely to a large extend on solar and wind energy. However, all of these have one characteristic in common: in contrast to fossil fuels that flow at a constant rate, solar and wind, fluctuate in time. The sun does so on a daily base but also on an annual one. Wind fluctuates on the scales of days and weeks.
This can be accomodated by a shift in operation of the factories of the future and will have a significant impact on the work of the process engineer of the future and that is YOU!
In this master class, we will concentrate on this challenge. By working in a group on a case, you will get a feel of what is waiting for our community. Without skilled Process Engineers, this transition will be very difficult if possible at all! Isn’t it great to have a key role during your future career in the transition from fossil to sustainable. And not by talking, but by doing as researchers and engineers.
Interested? Sign up for this Master Class.
Work in groups of 6 people and design our future!
B. (Bert) den Ouden (1957) joined Berenschot As Managing Director, he is jointly responsible with Director Ludwig Hoeksema for creating the Energy and Sustainability business unit. Bert den Ouden comes to us from the APX Energy Exchange, where he was General Manager since its foundation in 1999. Prior to this, he worked for the Energie-Nederland sector association and for the Ministry of Economic Affairs.
Here he was involved in various activities, such as energy efficiency, decentralised energy production and the liberalisation of the energy market.
In August 2013, Bert den Ouden became General Director of the Flexible Power Alliance Network, which aims to link sustainable energy with flexible demand through the ‘PowerMatcher’. This enables local projects and collectives to coordinate their demand and supply, including sustainable supply, and affect the mutual exchange of power.

T. (Tjeerd) Jongsma is director of the Institute for Sustainable Process Technology (ISPT). This is the industrial platform in the Netherlands for innovation in process technology. The institute brings together over 90 companies and research organizations in a joint industry innovation program. The turnover of the institute is over 20 M€. The institute has an explicit multidisciplinary and multisectoral approach. Companies typically come from the chemical, agro-food, pulp and paper, steel and oil and gas sector.
Currently the ISPT investigates the electrification of the industry as means of peak shaving in sustainable energy production.
In addition to being director of ISPT Tjeerd Jongsma is founder and director of Sunfloat® B.V. Sunfloat® B.V. delivers turnkey of floating PV cell fields.
Prior to Tjeerd function as director of ISPT, Tjeerd was the Director of Research with in FrieslandCampina. The central research organization of FrieslandCampina is responsible for the execution of the long and medium term strategic research for the whole company. This includes Business to Consumer, Cheese, Butter, Nutritional and Pharma Ingredients. The major fields are Physics and Chemistry, Process technology, Sensory and Consumer Science and modern life science including nutrition.
